Director of Fund for Innovations and Technology Development
Jovan Despotovski was born on 09th June 1977 in Skopje. Bachelor in Economy and Finance, started working for the Government of the Republic of Macedonia in 2003, as part of the Secretariat for European Affairs. He was leading the working group on Economic criteria within the process of preparing Answers to EC Questionnaire in 2004 that led to EU awarding candidate status to Macedonia. In the period 2008 – 2016 he was engaged on different EU and bilateral countries’ funded programmes on infrastructure and capacity building for state institutions.
In 2017 he was appointed Director of the state Fund for Innovations and Technology Development. The Fund runs programmes to support start-ups, commercialization of innovation, as well as enhancing competitiveness of Macedonian companies. The total financial portfolio of the Fund has been increased from 1 mil. (in August 2017) to approx. 57 mil. EUR (including approved contracts under the 2019 public call). Within the portfolio, over 35 mil. EUR are co-financing allocated by the Fund, generated from the Government and the World Bank, whereas the rest are own contribution of companies in investments. In this period, the Fund also opened schemes to support establishment of business accelerators’, technology extension programmes, as well as programmes to boost critical and creative thinking among the young and social innovation. In 2019 it commenced activities to establish Science and Technology park project in Skopje.
Jovan Despotovski is fluent in English, has working command of German, as well as basic understanding in French. He is one of the founders of MENSA Macedonia. In the period 2005 – 2008 he was regular weekend columnist in the than-largest daily Dnevnik. Married and father of 4.
